Questions and answers

What donors most often wonder about — giving, fees, tax deductions and zakat. If you cannot find the answer, the contact form is always open.

How do I give a gift?

On the giving page you choose what you want to support — for example a sack of flour, a blanket or a hand pump — and add it to your basket. You can give to several projects in the same payment, and pay at the end with Vipps or card.

Are there fees on top of the prices?

No. The prices in the donation catalogue are final — the amount you see is the amount you pay.

If you give zakat or riba as a separate amount, the transaction costs are added on top. For zakat this always happens, so that all of the zakat reaches its destination. For riba you choose yourself. The transaction costs cover the payment provider and the international bank transfer to the partners who distribute the gift.

How do I give zakat?

Zakat is given as a separate amount on the zakat page. The amount follows from your wealth, and the transaction cost is always added on top — it is never deducted from the zakat amount itself. Every krone you have calculated reaches its destination.

In addition, some items in the donation catalogue can be marked as zakat at checkout — for example a food parcel or a sewing machine for a widow. There the price is final and includes the transaction costs, so part of what you pay goes to the payment provider and to the transfer to the partners who distribute the gift. Those kroner cannot count as zakat. The checkout shows exactly how much counts before you pay. Items that cannot be given as zakat — such as equipment for a masjid — do not have this option.

If you need help calculating the amount, there is a zakat calculator in the menu.

Do I get a tax deduction for my gift?

Abi Charity is pre-approved by the Norwegian Tax Administration (org. no. 836 989 902). If you want a tax deduction (Norway), enter your national identity number (fødselsnummer) at checkout, and we will report the gift. The field is optional — you can always give without it.

Can I give anonymously?

Yes. At checkout you can tick the box to give anonymously — you then skip all personal details, and we store nothing about who you are. Note that an anonymous gift and a tax deduction cannot be combined: reporting to the Norwegian Tax Administration requires a national identity number. Vipps and your bank record the payment as normal; this is required by law.

Can I give by bank transfer?

Yes — and then nothing is lost to payment fees, so we recommend it for larger gifts. Note that a bank transfer gives neither an automatic receipt nor a tax deduction.

Account number: 1520.31.27291 (Abi Charity).

Important: write the purpose in the message field — for example “Zakat”, “Sadaqah — where it is needed most” or the item you want to give — and preferably your mobile number, so we know who the gift is from. A payment without a purpose cannot be placed in the accounts and must then be returned. If in doubt, contact us first.

How do I become a monthly donor — and how do I cancel?

A regular monthly gift is set up with Vipps — see Become a monthly donor. You choose the amount yourself, and there is no commitment period: the agreement can be ended at any time in the Vipps app under “Faste betalinger” (recurring payments), or by contacting us.

How do I know the gift reaches its destination?

We document the projects with photos and videos where possible, and share updates on ongoing and completed projects. The aid is purchased locally and distributed directly to the families, in cooperation with local staff who know the needs where they are. See the project pages for where we are working now.

What are the donations used for?

At ABI Charity, the donations are used for the specific projects the donors have chosen, including emergency relief, water projects, food distribution, building mosques and other humanitarian efforts.

How quickly does the help get started?

In emergencies we act quickly. As soon as donations are received, we inform our trusted teams and partners on the ground, so that they can start the relief work without unnecessary delay. International money transfers can sometimes take several days, but through our established contacts with local suppliers and partners, the relief work can often be started while the money is on its way.

For larger projects, such as building mosques or establishing larger water systems, the work starts when the funds have been transferred and are available at the destination.

Who carries out the relief work — and do you hand out cash?

Depending on the country and the project, we work either directly through our own local teams or in cooperation with trusted partner organisations. Payments are made directly to approved partners, contractors or suppliers.

As a general rule, we do not hand out cash directly to people who need help. Instead, we make sure to provide them with the goods, services or infrastructure they need. In this way, we aim to ensure that the donations are used effectively, transparently and in line with the purpose for which they were given.

What does 100% donation policy mean?

We do not take a single penny of your gift. Everything that reaches the cause goes to the cause — Abicharity keeps nothing for administration. The only thing deducted along the way is the transaction costs charged by the payment provider and the bank. We neither keep them nor profit from them. You can see exactly how much this amounts to in the summary before you pay.

How do you cover your administration costs?

Our administration is covered by government grants and by donations earmarked for running costs. Nothing is taken from gifts given to a specific purpose.

Who is behind Abi Charity?
